Spotlight: Janay Joseph, alumna filmmaker

Janay Joseph graduated from Nova with a Bachelor of Arts in History in the Spring of 2022. Following graduation, she Produced and Directed two documentary films, The Halls of Power and She Had A Dream: Eula Johnson’s Fight to Desegregate. Both films have received public recognition. She started working on She Had A Dream as part of an internship project with History Fort Lauderdale and then worked on The Halls of Power as a student for a Documentary Filmmaking class. Her primary goal in life is to go into media archival preservation studies in the future. She has won awards for both films. For The Halls of Power, she won Best Student Documentary and Best Youth Doc Short. She was also nominated for the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival. Janay will discuss her journey of finding a love for filmmaking, the people who inspired her along the way, and the disadvantages of being a young filmmaker in the industry. SUTV also highlighted the people in her corner helping her every step of the way. Shark Spotlight is a segment that highlights students, alums, and faculty staff.
