About Us

Mako Media Network (MMN) has an extensive history at Nova Southeastern University. MMN consists of three main branches: The Current, NSU’s student-run campus newspaper, Mako Radio (formerly Radio X), NSU’s student-run radio station, and Mako TV (formerly SUTV), NSU’s source of student-run broadcast journalism. All three of these branches play an integral role of keeping NSU’s community informed.

Mako TV

Formerly SUTV, Mako TV was founded by SGA’s Sharks United Party in 2009. Today, Mako TV continues to unite our sharks by covering NSU related news packages on and off campus. Mako TV engages in a wide array of story topics, including sports, news, health, the arts and more. Mako TV can be watched at any time on YouTube and on Shark Media.

Mako Radio

Mako Radio is a unique, non-commercial, non-profit radio station that started in August 1990 as a cable-based station, broadcasting solely to students residing on campus.  Mako Radio, which extends from Broward County to Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, is live on 88.5FM WKPX Sunrise at 6 p.m – 9 p.m. every day and through an online livestream. Mako Radio is a major supporter of local bands and the music scene, featuring interviews with South Florida’s up and coming musicians. Mako Radio also releases a regularly scheduled podcast, Off The Record, on Spotify. Mako Radio DJs events for NSU as well. Mako Radio can be found in the Rosenthal 140 at NSU’s Davie Campus.

The Current

The Current is Mako Media’s longest running branch, dating back to 1981 as the Nova College Day Division Student Government Newsletter and has been through many changes since its creation. Today, The Current is run by students and advised by faculty and staff members in the Department of Communication, Media, and the Arts. The Current covers a wide range of topics, such as sports, news, lifestyle, health & wellness, arts & entertainment. The Current can also be found across NSU’s Davie Campus at MMN newsroom, UC328.
